Information
As an intermediate coat to improve inter-coat adhesion between a primer and a topcoat, when changing from an existing solvent based topcoat to a water based topcoat and vice-versa, as a general-purpose undercoat on previously painted or primed substrates to provide additional film build for extra protection and when changing from very dark shades to light shades.

Spreading Capacity per coat: Depends on film thickness applied, type of texture, surface porosity, imperfections, temperature & wastage during painting. 10– 12 m²/l per coat.
Maximum spread rate per coat is obtained at minimum dry film thickness and vice versa.
For loosely bound or flaking surfaces, remove all flaking paint down to a firm base or the original building substrate. Apply 1 coat of an appropriate primer, followed by 1–2 coats of Crown Economy Undercoat Emulsion diluted up to 10% by volume with White Spirit. Finish with 1–2 coats of an appropriate oil- or water-based topcoat.
For steel surfaces, remove oil or grease using White Spirit or a suitable degreaser. Remove rust using a rust remover, rinse until water break-free and allow to dry completely. Apply 1 coat of Zinc Phosphate or Chromate Primer with minimal dilution, followed by 1–2 coats of Crown Economy Undercoat Emulsion diluted up to 10% by volume with White Spirit. Finish with 1–2 coats of an appropriate oil-based topcoat.
For aluminium and galvanised iron surfaces, clean with White Spirit or degreaser, rinse until water break-free and allow to dry completely. Apply 1 coat of Mordant Solution or 1-pack Etch Primer, followed by 1 coat of Zinc Phosphate Primer with minimal dilution. Apply 1–2 coats of Crown Economy Undercoat Emulsion diluted up to 10% by volume with White Spirit, and finish with 1–2 coats of an appropriate oil-based topcoat.
For wood surfaces, sand along the grain using P240–P320 sandpaper and remove all dust. Apply 1 coat of Crown White Wood or Aluminium Wood Primer diluted up to 10% by volume with White Spirit. Follow with 1–2 coats of Crown Economy Undercoat Emulsion diluted up to 10% by volume with White Spirit and finish with 1–2 coats of an appropriate oil- or water-based topcoat.
Economical.
Can be overcoated by oil and water-based topcoats.
